What is a CISRS Card?

The Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) was introduced to improve safety standards and reduce accidents across the UK construction industry. Over time, it became clear that certain sectors—such as scaffolding and access systems—require specialised training and safety requirements.

To address this, CSCS Affiliate cards were developed to ensure each trade meets the appropriate Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) standards while remaining part of the wider CSCS scheme.

Today, most UK construction employers require scaffolding workers to hold a valid CISRS card before they can start work on site, and often as part of the hiring process.

CISRS Card Scheme FAQ's

A CISRS (Construction Industry Scaffolders Record Scheme) Card confirms your training, competence, and experience for working in the scaffolding industry. Most employers require it to access UK construction sites and scaffolding work areas.

To apply, you must complete the required CISRS training and assessments, pass the Health, Safety and Environment (HS&E) test, and meet the experience requirements for your chosen card level. Once eligible, submit your application for approval.

You must complete the relevant CISRS training course, pass the HS&E test, and meet the qualification and experience criteria that match the CISRS card you are applying for.

To renew your card, ensure your HS&E test is valid and your training and experience remain up to date. If your card is lost or damaged, you can request a replacement through the official CISRS process.

Once your application is approved and all documents are submitted, your CISRS Card is usually delivered within 5–10 working days.
